Something interesting-- Laura Bush had people growing organic veggies in pots at the white house too, but it was never a big public thing. I'd be willing to bet that wasn't an accident-- do big agriculture and farming lobbies-- which are friends of the republican party-- want to see the first family encouraging small-scale, homegrown, and organic? no way, jose. but now? an activist first family with principles! go obamas!
